With stormy weather in the forecast, it's worth noting that the flood safety awareness week kicked off Sunday.
Swift water rescue teams were out at Festival Beach, demonstrating
their life-saving equipment and educating people about the dangers of
flash flooding.
Deadly torrents took a terrible toll here in Texas last year.
"2007
was a record year for flood related deaths in Texas," said
Meteorologist Paul Yura with the National Weather Service. "Sixty-three
of them -- over 30 happening in the Central Texas realm, right here
around Austin."
Central Texas is known as Flash Flood alley.
There is a greater chance of large-scale flooding here than in any
other part of the country.
