Lisa Zamora told us, "We saw the headlights and then all of a sudden we just saw them, you know, being drug down the wash."

Witnesses say the water rushing across the road was about five feet deep when the driver attempted to cross.

"When I had pulled up to call 9-1-1 and they were asking what type of car it was you couldn't even see it," Zamora said.

That's when several good samaritans, including david gritis tried to go in after the man.

Gritis told KOLD News 13, "It was just too deep to go in there. I would have been knocked off my feet. It was really powerful."

Pima County Sheriff's Deputies tell us the barricades were not up on Wentworth Road at the time the man's car was swept away in the wash.

Rural/ Metro firefighters had to wait for the water level to drop to make it safe enough to go in and rescue the man. They made it to his car, got him out, put a life jacket on him and walked him to safety, unharmed.

Witnesses say this a good reminder for people in Southern Arizona to avoid running washes during the Monsoon.

Zamora said, "It really lets you know how quickly that things can get out of control because, you know, from one second to the next the lights were here and they were gone and we couldn't see the car at all."

Pima County Sheriff's Deputies say the man will not receive a ticket because the barricades were not up.
