The body found in the Potomac River this week was identified as a Virginia man, according to police.

Montgomery County Police identified the body discovered in the Potomac River on May 28 as Dustin Joel Farkas, 23, of the 7000 block of Veering Lane in Burke, Va.

Farkas' body was found shortly after 1 p.m. in an area of the river south of Riley's Lock and north of Swain's Lock, about 400 yards north of the Riverbend Park boat ramp in Great Falls, Va.

Swift water rescue teams from Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service, Montgomery County Police, as well as officials from Fairfax County responded to the scene, according to Pete Piringer, a spokesman for the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service.

Farkas' body was caught in trees and bushes in the water, though it was ‘‘well off the shoreline,” Piringer said. The body appeared to have been in the water for an extended period of time, Piringer said.

The cause of death had yet to be determined. According to a statement released by Montgomery County Police, there was no evidence of foul play.

Montgomery County Police, the Department of Natural Resources, Maryland-National Capital Park Police Montgomery County Division, and Fairfax County Police are continuing to investigate Farkas' death.
