Operations: Swiftwater First Responder |

This
course will assist your agency in meeting the Operations
level of the National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) 1670 Standard for swiftwater rescue incidents.
This two-day
course has one day of classroom instruction and one day of practical
field exercise. Students are trained in hazard recognition, equipment
use and techniques necessary to conduct basic shore and boat based
swiftwater rescue.
After
completion of Operations: Swiftwater First Responder™, certified
personnel may participate in higher risk technical swiftwater rescues under the
supervision of Technician level Swiftwater Rescuers.
Equipment Needed
- Full wetsuit or drysuit for thermal and abrasion protection
- Lightweight water or climbing helmet
- Lifejacket/PFD with USCG Type III or V rating
- Water booties or tennis shoes
- Gloves and fins (optional)
Prerequisites
- At least 18 years of age
- Adequate heath insurance coverage
- Basic swimming ability
- Signed liability release form
- Proper personal protective equipment
- Willingness to participate in hands-on activities
- Good physical condition
