Check out photos of the Wilderness Adventures Advanced Guide workshop taken this April.
Elite Instructor Adam Robbins travels to Central and Northern CA each spring to instruct an 8-day workshop for experienced river guides. Students meet in Coloma, CA to pack camping and boating equipment then travel north to the Trinity Alps in Northern CA. A beautiful lush environment, the Trinities are full of great opportunity for educating experienced guides on expedition style Class V rafting. Never running the same river twice, this workshop is as diverse as it is technical. The goal is to expose guides to as much Class V diversity as possible. They will guide rivers like the CA Salmon, South Fork Salmon, Burnt Ranch Gorge, the New River, and the Upper Klamath. They may also run many classic Sierra rivers like the Feather River, Giants gap of the American, North Yuba, and others. This workshop is the only one of its kind in the US, providing guides with the freedom to succeed, fail and to learn on some of the best whitewater CA has to offer. Along with great boating, the course includes instruction on camp set-up and logistical preplanning, meal preparation and planning, and equipment preparation, repair, and use. There are also many hours of discussion and practice of technical rope skills, incident management, advanced river rescue techniques, and run and gun in boat rescue techniques. Former participants of this workshop have gone on to guide Class V rivers all over the world.
