Tallassee, Al. (WSFA) - We now know the name of the fisherman who died Tuesday in an accidental drowning on the Tallapoosa River.

Search and rescue crews recovered the body of 55-year-old Wetumpka resident Jorge Lopez from the river. The Tallapoosa River runs through Elmore County and becomes the Alabama River, when it joins the Coosa near Wetumpka.

Tallassee police say Lopez apparently slipped on some rocks  in the location where he was fishing with a friend and was swept down stream.

Lopez's friend immediately called for help and a swift water rescue team was on the scene within five minutes of the man's call.

The team was unable to rescue the fisherman, and divers couldn't locate his body.

Eventually, an Alabama state trooper helicopter spotted his body from the air, about a half mile from where he fishing.

The other fisherman was not injured in the incident.

Tallassee police officials say this is the second drowning in the area this year.
